Speed Cushions – Time to vote!

Comment card online submission : https://services.publicworks.houstontx.gov/ntmp_form.htm

The Shepherd Park Plaza Civic Club Board has taken no position either in favor of or opposition to speed cushions, nor made any recommendations to the City of Houston regarding the placement location of same.

The City of Houston is proposing to install speed cushions (formerly known as speed bumps) on several streets in and around Shepherd Park Plaza. There was a Public meeting at Durham Elementary last week to explain the proposal, including the location of the proposed cushions (see map below). The purpose of the cushions is to slow traffic in the neighborhood, a plan the City of Houston calls “traffic calming”. The installation and maintenance of the cushions remains with the City of Houston. The Fire Department has indicated that the proposed cushions are satisfactory for their purposes of maneuvering through the streets in an emergency.

If you would like to weigh in on this subject, please complete the form in the link below and return it to the City of Houston. You can vote for or against the proposal and the location of the speed cushions, or you can add comments about more speed cushions, fewer speed cushions, or location of speed cushions. The Director of this department (within the City of Houston) will then gather this information and move forward as proposed, stop the proposal or alter the proposal. As shown on the map below, speed cushions are not on every street in SPP.

The residents of our neighborhood have a 14-day comment period that ends July 12, 2016. If you want to comment, please complete the form and turn it in to the City of Houston before the deadline. All residents may not all agree on the same solution, but we all have the opportunity for our opinion to be heard.
